This washed AA-grade coffee comes from the historic Korgua Estate, located at an altitude of approximately 1,400 meters on the Kuta Ridge in the Waghi Valley of Papua New Guinea’s Western Highlands. The estate was founded in the 1930s by Dan Leahy and his brother, early explorers of the region, and is now operated by his son, Brian Leahy. Korgua was intentionally established on neutral tribal land to allow peaceful trade between neighboring groups, a rare and remarkable origin story in the world of coffee.
The farm cultivates traditional varieties such as Bourbon and Typica, and employs a meticulous washed process involving mechanical depulping, fermentation, and washing, resulting in a clean and transparent cup profile.
In the cup, expect a gentle and juicy sweetness reminiscent of baked apples, followed by layered richness like dried raisins. The aftertaste lingers with a pleasant cocoa-like depth and light bitterness, offering a calm and elegant finish.
