From the rich volcanic slopes of Kirinyaga County, this peaberry lot from Gakuyuini Factory offers a radiant expression of Kenya’s signature vibrancy. The cup opens with the floral zest of bergamot, followed by layered sweetness of cranberry and the juiciness of sweet orange, a profile that feels both crisp and refined, like sunlight through citrus leaves.

Gakuyuini Factory serves a network of smallholder farmers, each tending less than one hectare of land. These farmers grow their coffee alongside tea, maize, and legumes, using integrated, sustainable methods. With only around 250 coffee trees per farmer, each cherry is precious, harvested by hand, often with the help of family, and delivered with care to the factory.

This lot is composed entirely of peaberries, a rare mutation where only one rounded bean forms inside the cherry instead of the usual two. Representing just 5% of total harvest, peaberries are denser, rounder, and prized for their even roasting and concentrated flavor. In this cup, their brilliance shines through, creating a clean profile with a graceful sweetness and sparkling finish.
